Each service offers a different approach, and some may suit one client more than another. If you enjoy talk based therapy in a cosy, indoor space, straight counselling may be a good choice. If being outdoors, active or in nature is your preference, an equine service may be a good fit. If you are sprirtual and have a good understanding of energy, reiki may be a good starting point for you. All services are flexible and can be interwoven to suit each clients needs and preferences.
-
Depending on your health fund or NDIS plan, many services are able to claim at least part of the payment. These details can be clarified further in our initial booking conversation.

The purpose of EAL (Equine Assisted Learning) is skill building (social-emotional, personal and professional) through safe experiential learning experience with horses. It is suited to all ages, abilities and groups.
EAP (Equine Assisted Psychotherapy) is a unique and personalised form of clinical therapy which can only be practiced by a qualified clinitian/therapist. Instead of traditional room based talk therapy, the client and therapist seek to address, explore and unpack client goals using safe, relational horse experiences.
-
No. Equine services are for anyone, from horse experts to all the way to those who have never had been in proximity to a horse, as well as everyone in between. The sessions are tailored towards your comfort level and experience.
-
-
We have undercover areas to run sessions so that we are able to offer variations of these wonderful services in almost all conditions.
-
Equine Assisted work is VERY different from horse riding. Traditional horse riding is NOT on offer at Heart Held Journey.
It is possible that some experienced EAP clients may be offered a lead mounted session as an equine experience to address a particular theraputic goal. This, however, is not the norm and should certainly not be an expectation of any client.

Reiki is a traditional and holistic Japanese healing modality which translates to Rei -Spiritual and Ki - Energy. Trauma, stress and illness get stored in the body and lower our natural electromagnetic frequency. Reiki involves clearing and replenishing the client’s energetic field to promote health and harmony by aligning the body to its optimal healing frequencing.
-
Unlike many therapies, Reiki does not require talking, which is why it is so successful with animals and children as well as adults.
After a brief initial chat, clients will be invited to relax on the massage table and close their eyes while peaceful music plays. Crystals and essential oils may be used on or near the client. The reiki may be hands on or off, as the client prefers. The practitioner will move to different parts of the client (e.g head, heart, stomach, feet) moving the energy. Clients may experience temperature changes, visual images or emotions as energy moves. At the end of the session the client will be in flow, feel lighter, and have a greater sense of peace.
-
Other than a sense of relaxation, lightness and peace, once in flow, the client may experience many benefits including:
-reduced stress and anxiety
-better sleep and mood
-increased overall engery levels
-reduced pain
-trauma healing
-increased physical healing speed
-imprfoved quality of life

An adult client could expect to be greeted and offered herbal tea or water. They would then sit opposite the practitioner and discuss the reason for the session. The therapist and client would decide together on a goal for session or group of sessions, then, without judgement, the client would share the presenting issues, stories and emotions. All emotions would be welcomed, supported and worked through together, whilst gently unpacking the issues before discussing next steps for further support.
-
The child client would be greeted warmly, and depending on the age of the child, the child and the parent (as support or observer for young clients if needed) would be invited into the room for the session. Appropriate to the age, interest, history, and cognitive ability of the child, the therapist would use gentle and careful questioning to unpack the presenting issues, stories or emotions with the child. This may involve the use of toys, puppets, art, or even interaction with or observation of small animals. The therapists would assist the child to navigate, explore and release any big feelings safely. The parent and the therapist would then discuss next steps for support.
What People Are Saying
“I have had a lot of therapy in the past and also spent a lot of time with horses. But nothing prepared me for the transformative experience of equine therapy. I was a little cynical in the beginning as to what it could offer me above traditional therapy but watching the horses, interacting with them and learning from them was extremely helpful and healing. Danny's warm and calm nature added to the experience. Highly recommended. “
- Kate, EAP Client“Danny creates a safe, supportive and neuroaffirming environment in her work with people and animals. Her creativity and ability to tailor each session to the indivual are remarkable, helping clients feel supported while getting the most out of their experience.”
-Stephanie, EAL client and Equine Bodyworker
